Executive Assistant, Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company

Algona, Iowa

 Q: Tell us about yourself.

I joined IAAP in 1999 when I decided to sit for the CPS exam. From there it blossomed and through involvement with the Fort Dodge Chapter in various capacities, I then served as IA-NE Division Secretary, President-Elect and President. I have attended IAAP summit since 2000, only missing one year when a nephew got married. Through education offered by IAAP, I have become the Word guru in our company. Because I earned the CPS, I was appointed as Board Secretary in 2001 and continue to serve in this capacity. Only men and officers held that position previously. I have been Executive Assistant since 1989, developing the role as needed. A few duties over the years have included transcribing, filing, calendar scheduling, being a grammar nerd and leading the Corporate Communication Committee, minute taking, planning board and sales meetings and incentive trips (a benefits in planning these activities allows me to visit different parts of the United States and other countries—I only have 4 more states to visit). I am the longest tenured employee—42 years in February. I love walking, reading, doing puzzles, taking weekend brewery trips with my husband of 41 years, and spoiling my three grandchildren.

Q: How did you first get involved with the Foundation?

My first involvement was purchasing items at IAAP Summit through their fundraiser. I love to spread the word of the good work this organization does. I have served on the Scholarship Subcommittee and chaired it one year.

Q: What is one way you have chosen to support the Foundation?

Annually I donate to the Foundation through the Give programs. I have been fortunate to have employer support for IAAP Summit and I want to give back to this organization and help others attend educational conferences. I’m excited to see scholarship winners at Summit and the enthusiasm they bring to IAAP.I have also supported the Foundation at the Region level by donating a basket with goodies from my community/area for the Northern Plains fundraiser. It’s great to be able to support them through Amazon Smile also—doesn’t cost us anything except our purchase on Amazon Smile.

Q: What do you love about the Foundation and why do you choose to support it?

They provide scholarships to other admins to Summit, fund educational programs, and support retired admins through the housing assistance. The Foundation has truly developed into a great organization with exceptional leadership providing new ideas and not afraid to make changes as needed.

Q: What would you want someone else to know about the Foundation?

The Foundation supports our admin profession. Through their support of educational programs, etc., we can accomplish our goals and dreams and be successful. There is no limit to what we can achieve through the encouragement of the Foundation. Consider making the Foundation one of your charities of choice—you won’t be disappointed.
